Put the verbs in the Past Continuous tense:

Mr Ross (sit) at his desk and he (clean) his gun.
Anyway, Matt (look) inside it to see whose it was when one of the teachers came in.
At ten past two, Wilson (not set) the table in the dining room.
It (come) down the hill towards the town.
I (wait) for a train but when it arrived, it didn’t stop.
They (have) a good time.
Suddenly, as they (go) along a very busy road, the driver had a heart attack.
